About us

Thatch Close Cottages is owned and ran by your hosts, Edward and Marian Drzymalski. Guests often ask how to pronounce their surname, (Drzy-mal-ski) and its origins, which is from Poland.

They have been married for over 50 years, and previously both worked for VSO in Nigeria before returning to the UK. Marian then enjoyed a career in teaching whilst Edward worked in agricultural research, teaching & civil service.

“We moved to South Herefordshire to familiar territory and to raise our two children in an idyllic rural environment. Those two children are all grown up now with children of their own. Chris is a London fireman, whilst Nick runs a Dubai IT company. Whilst they were young, we ran a small-holding here, making our own sausages and bacon, which helped when Marian started Thatch Close Bed & Breakfast (Thatch Close Cottages’ forerunner).

“We then converted the 17th century farm buildings into quality, accessible and dog-friendly holiday cottages. We love to welcome guests and their families (including the four-legged members) to enjoy our rural Herefordshire haven and look forward to welcoming you soon.”
